PRODUCTION LOG

On this page, I start you off doing your Production Log. Once you've got the hang of what to write, keep it up every week. Often it is best to post every lesson, while it's fresh in your memory.

View 'Dead Capacity ' here
In class today we looked at other GCSE pupils' work such as what the previous year in my school made last year. We viewed a screening of a zombie horror/thriller 'Dead Capacity'. We studied the way that sound and vision editing were creatively combined so that when the main character is listening to the kitchen radio, the sound on the radio becomes distorted when the zombies arrive outside; this is intensified by visual distortion post-production. The meaning is made clear through a combination of sound and vision editing: zombies disrupt the natural world and threaten the safety of the people inside the house as they prey on their victims.
We alos note how a really imaginative original production company makes a poilished and convincing start to the opening credits. This group used Adobe After Effects to create their moving image ident.

Today in class we studied the way that the Nils Abden Opliv director of 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' framed various shots, such as opening the film with an extreme close-up of a man's hands opening a paper parcel in side view.
We also noticed how certain shots were very tightly framed so that the identity of the person was concealed or limited, which contributes to the enigma.
Some shots seemed to be the point of view of a security camera, which immediately  cast suspicion on the character and added a sense of impending danger.

Another important feature of the film was the way that characters walked into the shot from the front to the back of the shot, keeping their back view to the camera. This also contributed to the enigma.

Thursday 22 September
Today  we watched the opening of Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Now and analysed how tension and enigma are created, for example, through the use of editing the two narrative strands together: the father inside the house examines slides of a Venetian church interior but cuts himself so that blood streams across the image. This is then followed by the couple's small daughter drowning. We also noticed how iconography is an important way of signalling important information andcreating tension and enigma:there is a match between

Tuesday 4 October
Today I created a blog that will help me record all my research and planning online. I am linked to my class blog and my friends. It will be very useful to be able to liaise with the rest of my group even when I am not in class as I will be able to see what they have planned online.
I plan to / I have added a link to my Twitter page as well.
My teacher will check my blog posts several times a week.
