EXAM REVISION SESSION

Q.1 Explain two ways  in which the narrative (the characters and events) in the extract fits the genre.  Use examples from the extract. You might consider:

  • Define the genre of the extract (What kind of AA is it? How precisely do you know?)
  • Can you use terms like spectacle, jeopardy and suspense, speed and motion, conflict and combat?
  • What action happens in the extract? Is it typical? (Classic Adventure: Quest, exotic, danger / risk, historical; Action: emphasis on story, physical feats,think of the physical impact on audiences)
  • How does it make the audience feel? What do we experience?
  • Is there a hero? 
  • What kind of hero is he? Is he typical? Good? How can you tell?


Q. 2: Explain how each of the following is used to create effects that fit the action adventure genre:

  • mise-en-scene
  • camerawork
  • editing
  • soundtrack 
Q. 3:
Discuss how people are represented in the extract. Refer to stereotypes in your answer.

ACTION ADVENTURE REVISION

There are some 'model answers' on the year 10 blog to help you HERE IT IS. Look at 15th and 20th March, for example. I will post more soon.

Our third lesson this week on Section B of our summer exam. We look at the channels on which QI, InBewteeners and The IT Crowd are broadcast. We revise what we need to know for the exam.

Why is The Inbetweeners on E4? 
  • Advertising Target Audience “Young people are the Holy Grail for advertisers. Elusive, trend-setting, and with a large disposable income, young people are the group brands and advertisers most want to appeal to.” 
  • State the day, time and channel on which the programme was scheduled. 
  • DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE How does the programme enable E4/ Channel 4 to reach that audience? Youth audience (15-34) 96% of E4 audience under 25 Mainstream audience. "E4 is the entertainment destination for a cutting edge young audience". Makes jokes out of older characters E4. "predominantly young and upmarket, but they're also fashion conscious, sociable, connected, heavy internet users, they love going out and tend to use advertising as one of their many information sources."
  • PSYCHOGRAPHIC PROFILE Upmarket Mix of programmes: Comedy; Light entertainment E4's Brand/ Style/ Ethos "beautifully random, joyously daft and generally not taking things too seriously" "eccentric and witty" "E4 is here to entertain" 
  • They are also likely to be opinion formers and more likely to talk about brands and convince them to try them out." Middle class; Suburban Light entertainment 
  • Witty; light hearted humour  (and all Channel 4 channels) is a commercial channel - income from commercials/ advertising/ sponsorship Psychographic profile of audience Demographic profile of audience Channel 4s "core" channels have a PSB requirement. E4 is a non-core channel, so it doesn't directly have to meet PSB requirements
